SPOKANE, Wash. – It is the middle of May and that signals the start of the playoff season for spring sports all over the Inland Northwest.

Teams now start getting into that part of the year where their teams move on, or see their seasons – and sometimes careers – come to an end.

North Central vs. Kamiakin – 3A Regional Soccer

On Tuesday, we had a 3A Regional Soccer matchup between North Central and Kamiakin. The Braves went up 3-0 at the half, then added two more in the second half for a convincing 5-0 win.

Kamiakin moves on, while North Central sees their season come to an end.

Mt. Spokane vs. Kennewick – 3A Regional Soccer

At Joe Albi Stadium, Mt. Spokane hosted Kennewick. The Wildcats used a late score to go up 2-1 and beat Kennewick. Mt. Spokane will host a first round game at state next Tuesday.

Ferris vs. Chiawana – 3A Regional Soccer

Down in the Tri-Cities, Ferris – the 3rd seed out of the Greater Spokane League—took on Chiawana. With the game tied at 1 and heading to penalty kicks, Saxons Kandon Simon is able to sneak the ball past the Chiawana goalie to put Ferris up.

Play of the game would be from Saxons keeper Phillip Chukin as he made a critical save in the final round to help Ferris advance 2-1 on penalty kicks.

The Saxons will play Lewis and Clark on Thursday Night at Joe Albi.

Central Valley vs. Pasco – 4A Regional Soccer

Still in the Tri-Cities, the top seed in the GSL – Central Valley – who capped off an unbeaten season took on Pasco in a 4A Regional showdown.

The scoring was fast and furious in this match. Six minutes in, JD Hauenstein knocks in CV’s first goal of the half with a shot into the corner of the net. Hauenstein was the star for the Bears Tuesday night, scoring two goals.

Five goals were scored by both teams in the first 30 minutes, but Central Valley prevailed 4-3. The Bears move on to state.

North Central vs. Mt. Spokane – District Softball

District softball was also on tap Tuesday night at Whitworth University in Spokane as North Central took on Mt. Spokane.

Top 2nd, Jessica Huffman got a couple good bounces and scores two.

Wildcats already with three in the bottom half of the inning add one more to go up 4-3.

Top 3rd with the score tied at 4 Indians’ Kaylee Levien gets up, gets out, and gets something with a three run blast to put the Indians up 7-4.

The Indians would go on to win 15-8.
