Grandson of ex-president of Kazakhstan Nazarbayev dies in London

NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan – The eldest daughter of the former President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, Dariga Nazarbayeva, confirmed the information about the death of her son Aisultan and asked the public for understanding and respect for the family tragedy, the Foundation of the ex-President of the country Nursultan Nazarbayev put this text on its Facebook page.

“My family as devastated at the loss of our beloved Aisultan, and we ask for privacy at this very difficult time,” the Foundation said.

The news of the death of Nazarbayev’s grandson appeared on August 16 in some media. Aisultan Nazarbayev died on the night of August 16 in London, presumably from cardiac arrest. He died 10 days before his 30th birthday. Other details have not yet been reported.

Aisultan Rakhatovich Nazarbayev (Aliev) was born on August 26, 1990. Father – Kazakh politician, businessman and diplomat Rakhat Aliyev, mother – the eldest daughter of the First President of Kazakhstan – Leader of the Nation Nursultan Nazarbayev – Dariga Nazarbayeva (born 1963).

He studied at the school “International College of Continuing Education” (Astana), boarding school “American International School” (Salzburg, Austria). He graduated from the British Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (2009-2010). He graduated from the KIMEP University with a Master’s degree in Business Administration (Almaty). He served in the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan (2012-2013). He started playing football at the Admira Wacker club during his father’s service as ambassador to Austria. In 2006 he played two matches in the first league of Kazakhstan for the capital “Rakhat”, in 2007 he was a member of FC “Zheleznodorozhnik” Almaty. Took part in the qualifying tournament for the 2006 European Youth Football Championship.

He spent several months at the Chelsea academy. He played a season in the youth team of Portsmouth, became the bronze medalist of the English Championship. In 2011 he played for Astana’s double. October 21, 2012 played the only match in the championship of Kazakhstan – in the home game for the club “Sunkar” Kaskelen against “Aktobe” came out in the middle of the second half.

Aisultan Nazarbayev from February to October 2017 was vice-president of the Football Federation of Kazakhstan for relations with international organisations FIFA, UEFA and national associations.

In October 2019, Nazarbayev’s grandson was sentenced to a suspended sentence for attacking a police officer in London in June 2019. He tried to attempt suicide in someone else’s room. The verdict included probation, continued drug treatment, community service, and a fine.

In 2013, he married the daughter of Kairat Boranbayev (2006-2012 – Chairman of the Board of KazRosGaz; 2006-2014 – General Director of JV KazRosGas JSC) – Alima. They have a son and a daughter.
