European Commissioner for innovation, research, culture, education and youth, Mariya Gabriel has tested positive for COVID-19, she announced in a Twitter post on Saturday.

The Bulgarian Commissioner took a first test on Monday, which was negative, however her second test came back positive.

“I have been in self-isolation since Monday and continue staying at home, following the established regulations,” Gabriel said in her Twitter post. Earlier in October, the Commissioner had informed that along with her whole team they had entered precautionary quarantine after one of its members tested positive for the virus.

She had tweeted that she is feeling well and had no symptoms.

Gabriel is the member of the College to contract the virus, although severals have entered precautionary quarantine after possible exposure to COVID-19, including Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, the bloc’s Health chief Stella Kyriakides and Frans Timmermans, EU’s Commissioner for the flagship Green Deal policy.
